Good Evening, Friends!

Hey there. It’s Andi again. I have been trying to get this blog setup the way that I envisioned it in the beginning, but I am realizing that I suck big time at the technology side of this. Anyhow… I had today off because I work 12s in the OR on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I spent the day going to my own doctor’s appointment (just what we all want to do on our days off… more medical shit) and spending time with my kids. I think I previously mentioned having a 3-year-old and a 2-year-old. My 3-year-old turns 4 on Sunday and we are having a little get-together for family at our house, so that should be fun. Lots to do leading up to the party, but I guess the kid is worth it lol

I wanted to get on here and debrief from this last week in the OR. There were a ton of people sick in my department with the Flu, so we were running a little short-handed… Have any of you noticed an increase in Flu cases where you are? We made each day work, but some people also got pulled for overnight shifts, so they also only worked half-days to cover their hours. Being part of the pediatric/ENT team is usually a huge advantage. We take way more call than the ortho-neuro/general folks, but it is worth it.

In the operating room, I have a specific pediatric surgeon that I work with (we will call him Roger) and Roger makes me laugh every time I come into his OR. I walked into his room to take over right after he got finished with a digital disimpaction (pulling poo from a bootyhole) and he said I just missed the best part and I would’ve done so good because I “deal with people full of shit all the time” and I turned it right around on him saying “yeah, I deal with you….” We had the entire room cracking up. It is moments like these that I am beyond grateful to work in not only my department, but specifically with the doctors I have gotten close to. Are you guys able to joke around and be silly with the people you work with frequently? I would hate having a job that you were forced to be so serious all the time… Been there, done that. That’s probably why I am not at that job anymore.

On the flip side, I also work regularly with a very condescending doctor who is needy, entitled, and all-around miserable to be around. My facility recently put a new policy in place for our time-out procedures, and the supervisors have to witness every single time-out that occurs for the first two weeks of this new policy being implemented. He was unaware that a supervisor was present, was not cooperating, got his attitude handed back to him by the supervisor that was in the room, and was ultimately extremely childish, being difficult to be around. There are always going to be these types of people that we have to deal with… Do any of you have experiences like this one, where the doctor or somebody you have to be around is just straight up rude? I have a hard time dealing with this type of behavior…

Anyways, it is getting late here, so I will sign off. I just want to keep writing my thoughts out and let you all know that we are all in this together. Whether you are a medical professional or not, this can be your space… Just let me know what you need, what I can do for you, if there is a specific topic that you want to discuss, or if you simply want to vent… Just comment on a post or shoot me an email. I will do my best to get back to everyone!

Take care, my friends

Until next time <3
